Looking for a quick hike and a beautiful waterfall in Western Montana? Look no further! The most difficult part of the Morrell Falls hike is finding the trailhead and parking lot. Morrell Falls cascades more than 70 feet into Morrell Creek. An easy hike with great views!
From the town of Seeley Lake, travel 0.5 mile north on Highway 83. Turn east (right) on Morrell Creek Road (small green street sign) which becomes Forest Service Road #477/Cottonwood Lakes Road, and travel 1.1 miles. Turn north (left) on West Morrell Road #4353 and travel about 6 miles. Turn east (right) on Pyramid Pass Road #4381, go 0.25 mile. Then turn north (left) on Morrell Falls Road #4364. Continue for 1 mile to the Morrell Falls Trailhead and parking area.
Once parked in the lot hop on the trailhead. The hike along the Morrell Falls National Recreation Trail is very easy to start, meandering through light woods for 1/4 -1/2 mile. There is a small incline up a hill at about the 3/4 mile mark and then the trail continues through more dense woods. Morrell Lake appears at the 1 mile mark. I have camped there over night and had a great time. Be bear aware! Bear spray is necessary as this is a Grizzly Bear populated area. Once you reach the falls take a break, get your feet wet, have a snack, snap a photo and make your way back to the trailhead! An incredible easy hike to very scenic views.
Parking:
The parking lot can be crowded on weekends.

Morrell Falls Reviews
Closed to all vehicles except snowmobiles 6 miles away from start of trailhead in winter & spring. Went up end of April and couldn't drive to trail head... going try again closer to summer! Recommended to call ranger station before making the trip.

Easy hike with a few inclines but rewarding once you've reached the waterfalls. Please note that the trailhead is often busy throughout the summer. You'll pass a small lake on the way up that opens into a beautiful meadow :). If your daring, don't be afraid to stick your head under one of the many falls Morrell offers! Happy hiking!

This is an easy and rewarding little day hike! My favorite season for this hike is early fall- the trees are changing colors and the water is low enough where you can explore the surrounding rocks. It's a great spot for a picnic too!
