Take a short, quick hike to a gorgeous Pacific Northwest waterfall (55 ft), University Falls.
The 0.3 mile hike to University Falls seems longer than it is because you'll be stopping to take pictures every step of the way. No, you're not in an enchanted forest, you're in the Tillamook National Forest. The waterfall you're about to find, however, certainly is enchanting.
From Portland, head towards the coast range and turn left at Browns Camp. Immediately bear right and follow a gravel road for several miles, following signs to University Falls Trailhead.
The short hike to the falls is rewarded by a beautiful cascade, surrounded by mossy trees and rocks. Large logs lying across the creek make for a good lunch or hangout spot.
This area makes for a great break along the drive from Portland to the coast. To avoid the noise of friendly ATV riders, plan to come during weekdays.
